MOUFLON

Offshore reefs of rubble

Apartments prey on plantations

Basking on black beaches

An island knows no nations

With my neck in the clouds

And my eyes in the soil

I stare at the strange stars

Above the bodies that burn

Above the beaches that boil

I 'm nursing the slain scars

The slain scars….

Lizards lick the lava

And bananas bow to boulders

Perched up on the steep slopes

How the mouflon shrugs his shoulders

With his neck in the clouds

And his eyes in the soil

Stares at the strange stars

Above the bodies that burn

Above the beaches that boil

Nursing the slain scars

The slain scars….

His slain scars….

Guanches gave their gorges

To a galleon's gangrenous gauntlet

Yield a yellow plumage

And you'll have a yearn to yawn yet

With your neck in the clouds

And your eyes in the soil

You stare at the strange stars

Above the bodies that burn

Above the beaches that boil

You're nursing your slain scars

Your slain scars….

Your slain, slain scars

The island of La Palma in the Canaries has a fragile ecosystem. It is a very tall island for its footprint. The rain still falls there. The Guanches were the early human inhabitants. They evaded defeat for some considerable time partly due to their ability to pole-vault across ravines thus enabling them to travel quickly across the landscape. They were eventually trashed by the Spanish invaders.
